Campsite: PineWoods - Norfolk
8/26/2009 8:56:12 PM
Campsite: PineWoods
Overall Rating: 4/10
Location: Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Contact details: 01328 710439 / www.pinewoods.co.uk
Washing facilities: Yes in the main caravan park, but not in the camping area we were allocated to. In the main park the facilities were in need of some updating and the showers had mould/damp on the walls. In the field we were pitched in there were half a dozen portaloos and a couple of drinking water points though.
Suited to: Campers who are happy to 'rough it' a bit, in return for great location.
WiFi access: No
Pinewoods campsiteNearby attractions & views: You could throw a stone from this campsite and hit the beach (or a seagull!). It's a pleasant 1-mile walk into Wells town centre (or there's a lovely miniture steam train for those less inclined to walk); a 10 minute walk to the beautiful Pine Woods, around 4 miles from Holkham Hall and the site is also perfectly situated for visiting the North Norfolk coast. Cost per pitch: This was the reason the site only scored 4/10. Despite having been quoted £17-£21 on email I was charged £27 per night to pitch on the overflow site. We were unable to book a tent pitch in advance - even though we were with a party of caravans who HAD booked. Having checked the online brochure, I note it does say £27 per night for overflow, but in all honesty I would never pay that again for this site and in future will either camp elsewhere (there is no shortage of campsites in Norfolk) or stay with family near by. The charge is just far to high for the poorly-serviced piece of land allocated as an 'overflow'.
General feedback: The site wasn't actually too bad, I'd happily have paid £10-£15 per night for my small pitch without any expectation of properly plummed toilets/showers/sinks. However, I do think that the £27 a night is just too much to ask when there are so many other excellent campsites around and being unable to book a spot in the lower-priced field will certainly put me off going again and sadly prevents me from reccommending this site to anyone I like!
