Glo-worms - reflective strips to prevent trips

glo-worm on our tentWe were invited to review this product and it couldn't have come at a better time - the samples arrived just as we set off to a feestival. Anyone who's ever camped at a festival will know how tightly packed in the tents are and how annoying it is to have 'merry' revellers tripping over your guys ropes all night as your try to get a couple of hours shut-eye.

We couldn't wait to get these little 'worms' attached to our tent and, as the package promised, they were very easy to attach - simply thread the guy rope through them and you're away.

But.... do they work?
Well.. For some reason I'd convinved myself that they were glow in the dark. Which they're not.

We found that unless there was light shining directly on them you couldn't see them - although we were pitched in a very dark field with no artificial light for miles around.
However, the second we shone a torch on them they lit up like beacons, and I'm sure that in a campsite with any level of lighting they would be very effective and we're looking forward to testing them out again on our next trip.
Our verdict: 7/10 - a brilliant idea, simple to use and a great way to prevent trips on guy ropes.

Campingaz Bivouac Stove

Campingaz Bivouac Stove

Item Bought: Summer 2008
campingaz bivouac stoveWould you recommend it? Yes. This is by far the best portable stove we've used. It's sturdy and steady - not easy to kick over, which is important in our book!
We've used the small clip-on stove-tops before, and they work perfectly well, but always feel a touch wobbly. We also had one of the large double ring stoves with fancy built in grill, but frankly, that's a bit bulky if you're only feeding two people for a weekend.
Marks out of 10? We're happy to give this a rating of 9/10. Love it!
Campingaz cv300L Gas Lantern

Campingaz cv300L Gas Lantern

Would you recommend it?: Yes. It is far better than any battery lantern I have used and the electric start means no fiddling about in the dark with matches. The easy lock and load cartridge system makes changing gas cartridges easy-peasy.

The lantern costs around £18 and the spare cartridges are £4 each from any camping shop. Cartridges last for about 7 hours although I find that one cartridge lasts me 2 or 3 trips.

It can also be used to warm your hands up (my tip, not the manufacturers)!

Marks out of 10?: 8/10. Only let down by the fact you have to change the mantle from time to time (once a year maybe) which can be fiddly.
