Pitching your tent - simple, right?
So, you've bought a new tent and you're all excited about going and trying it out - some annoying person is guaranteed to tell you; "make sure you pitch the tent at home before you go" and you know very well that not only will YOU never bother with that advice but that secretly, the annoying person has probably never really checked their tent before setting off either.

So, with that in mind, here are a few tips that might be worth keeping in mind when you arrive at the campsite with your new, never seen before tent!

According to Caravan Magazine, a campsite has been opened on the roof of a London building, claiming to be the UK's first 'urban campsite'.

Well, I'm pleased to say that there were fewer 'blank' looks this year as I explained to people where I was going at the weekend - "Glastonbudget? Oh yeah, I've heard of that", people would say. And then they usually ask me what it was like…

Best behaviour

It’s easy to forget that the walls of your tent are made of canvas and that the whole campsite is not your back garden. There are rules at most campsites – written and unwritten - that you should keep in mind in order to prevent your holiday being cut short or ruining other people’s breaks.

It's official, camping is cool

It's official, camping is cool.
The Telegraph and Sky News have both mentioned it this week.

The Telegraph has run an article on the top 10 family campsites and Sky News confirms that campsite bookings in the UK are up by an impressive 27% - that's a huge number of you that are going to be braving camping for the first time in years, or possibly ever and I salute you. I say; go for it. Have a great time!

However, there are a couple of things you might want to consider…

Camping tip #3

#3 Use large plastic storage boxes with lids – like those you’d store kids toys in – to keep your essential camping kit together. It makes it easier to pack and harder to forget essentials.
Camping tip #2

#2 This will seem obvious, but it’s one of those things that's sooooo easy to overlook – check the batteries in your torches before you set off.

It’s worth buying a pack of batteries and leaving them with your camping kit for future use.
Camping at festivals
5/4/2009 6:06:25 PM
Since I mentioned festival camping in the "how to keep warm" article, and we've just updated the calendar with a selection of this year's summer events, I thought it would be a good time to give some tips on camping at a festival.

There are massive differences between normal camping on a campsite and pitching up at a festival. The sheer number of people present is one of the main things you'll notice as it means there are no real limits as to how close people camp to each other. If you're used to having plenty of space around your tent and neighbours who don't walk through the middle of your pitch singing and shouting loudly at 3.am, you could be in for a shock.
