Top tip #10

close up of a wasp#10 There seems to be a huge number of wasps around at the moment. If you're unlicky enough to be stung, use vinegar or lemon juice to sooth the pain. If you're stung by a bee, a little bicarbinate of soda mixed with water will do the trick.
Top tip #9

#9 If you've got a dome tent, put the frame up but - weather permitting - lay the inner tent down inside the frame before you peg it out. This will ensure your tent goes up straight and that you don't pull the canvas out too tight.

Camping tip #7

#7 If you've been over enthusiastic with the heat when cooking, you can remove any burnt-on food from a saucepan by pouring in a few inches of water, adding a couple of drops of washing-up liquid and bringing it back to the boil while you eat your meal.  Be careful when you come to wash the pot though - remember the water will be hot!
Camping tip #8

#8 If you're pitching in the wind, make sure you point the main door of the tent away from the wind. Peg down the corners of the outer tent loosely before you thread the poles in - it will help stop the tent blowing away and taking out your neighbours when you erect the poles.
Camping tip #6

#6 Make sure nothing is leaning against the wall of your tent as this will let in any rain or condensation. Also, make sure your inner and outer tent aren't touching to avoid letting any rain into the inner tent.
Camping tip #5

#5 Don’t let sunset be the end of your day. Grab yourself a low-wattage torch and take a gentle stroll around the campsite (perhaps with a plastic tumbler of your favourite camping cocktail?).

It’s amazing how different everything looks in the moonlight and, as long as you’re not disturbing your neighbours, a walk will keep you warm and add hours onto the end of yo
ur day.
Camping tip #4

#4 Keep wellies, waterproofs and suncream as permanent accessories for your camping kits, especially if you’re camping in the UK

Camping tip #3

#3 Use large plastic storage boxes with lids – like those you’d store kids toys in – to keep your essential camping kit together. It makes it easier to pack and harder to forget essentials.
Camping tip #2

#2 This will seem obvious, but it’s one of those things that's sooooo easy to overlook – check the batteries in your torches before you set off.

It’s worth buying a pack of batteries and leaving them with your camping kit for future use.
